Finnish Animation Guild’s Masterclass series contienues in October and will visti this time also in Tampere.

Tzor is an animation director, illustrator and musician originally from Jerusalem, now based in Tampere, Finland. They graduated from Screen Based Arts department Bezalel Academy for Arts & Design, Jerusalem, in 2019. Their work is inspired by the cultural exchanges and migrations of the Mediterranean and beyond, with a focus on their own Moroccan background. An essential part of their work is reinterpreting historical texts and breaking down physical spaces through a contemporary queer lens, bold and expressive visuals, and uncompromising subjectivity. Tzor is also a tattoo artist and a musician, playes cello and oud, and composes music for their films.
Edery’s latest short animation, Maurice’s Bar, a story of legendary queer bar in early 20th century Paris premiered at the Annecy Animation Festival in France 2023, and the film has since been shown at numerous festivals around the world.
Owned by the mysterious Moïse Zekri, an Algerian-Jewish immigrant, the bar was forgotten legend of early 20th century Parisian queer night life. The film follows a poetic recollection of the night of the bar’s raid and closure by the police in 1908, retold through the eyes of those who were there.

Heta Jäälinoja (b. 1989, Vantaa) has graduated as an animation director from the Turku Academy of Arts and has a master’s degree in animation from the Estonian Academy of Arts. Her films Penelope (2016), which won an award at the Tampere Film Festival, and Nun or Never, which won an award at the Annecy Animation Festival. (2023) have been festival successes around the world. Never or Never! has already won several dozen awards during the year and has been nominated in the Best Short Film category at the 2024 Emily Awards.
Jäälinoja teaches animation in Aalto University and in Metropolia University of Applied Siences. Trees, cooking and romantic comedies are close to her heart.
In her Masterclass Jäälinoja tells about through her works the realizations and inspirations which she has had as a filmmaker, consentrating especially to the rather long making process of her latest film Nun or Never!
